Human Centred Education

This website is created as a resource or knowledge-base to explore the essential qualities and practices of a truly human-centred education. The concept of human-centred education has been utilised and developed by the Guerrand-Hermès Foundation for Peace (GHFP) through its connection with a network of schools around the world. Operating in diverse backgrounds, these schools share similar educational ideals and values, which the GHFP has termed 'human-centred education'.

Human-centred education aims at the development of the whole person and enabling the expression of full human potential through educational processes and practices. It employs an holistic approach to curriculum and assessment, depends on human relations between teachers, students, parents and other members of the community, and is achieved through addressing the unity of human experience as a whole, within a stimulating human environment in the school classroom, playground, community and beyond.

vision

Human-centred education is not only processes and practices within schools and educational institutions in general. It is a learning experience for all, including educators who intend to commit themselves to the core values of human-centredness. The development and growth of any educator is a major aspect of our perspective in human-centred education.

the GHFP views the learning community for educators themselves as key to the development of human potential in educational practice.

Dr Michael Fielding writes: Community is both the condition and the meaning of education and human fulfilment.

the site is specified to support active contributions from educators, parents and students to form the widest community of practice. An objective is to generate meaningful discussions focusing on themes and issues in relation to human-centred education ideals and values. As an action space for exchange of information, practice and narrative; person-centred topical and human centred research, dialogue and discussion.
